What is Mindfulness Meditation? Mindfulness Meditation is a form of meditation derived from a 2,500 year old Buddhist practice called Vipassana or Insight Meditation. It is a form of meditation designed to develop the skill of paying attention to our inner and outer experiences with acceptance, patience, and compassion. Mindfulness is cultivated by paying attention on purpose, deeply, and without judgment to whatever arises in the present moment. Mindfulness meditation is a practice done ‘on the cushion’ and also in one’s day to day life; individuals can live more fully and less on automatic pilot, thus, being more present for their own lives. This, in turn, impacts the lives of those we interact with. Please note that mindfulness meditation may not be the best practice for those living with significant unprocessed trauma. In this case, it may be best to work with a professional therapist and incorporate meditation as advised.

About Liz Kinchen MS, MA, CMMT: I have been practicing meditation and leading meditation groups over the past 45 years, in a variety of styles - Zen Buddhism, chakra-based guided imagery, Centering Prayer, and mindfulness. I am a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, trained by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach through the Awareness Training Institute and the University of California at Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, and a trained Mindfulness mentor. I have trained with various leaders in the mindfulness community, such as Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, Kristen Neff, Pema Chodron, and others. I offer classes, ongoing groups, and one-on-one meditation mentoring sessions. I will come to your organization to offer training and support in starting and sustaining a mindfulness meditation practice. My professional background is in corporate, non-profit, and faith community settings, and I have a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. It is my deepest aspiration to share what these teachings have to offer with those on the path of awakening.

I am also a speaker and writer. My debut memoir, Light in Bandaged Places: Healing in the Wake of Young Betrayal, was released in the fall of 2023.
